One of Oxford’s iconic retail locations, Westgate Oxford, is set to undergo a major redevelopment that will see it transformed into an 800,000 sq ft retail and leisure destination, due for completion in autumn 2017, a recent news release in the local media has been able to reveal.

The new Westgate Oxford will include over 100 new stores, 25 restaurants and cafes, a boutique cinema, roof top terrace dining and a wealth of new public spaces.

Laing O’Rourke has been named the principal contractor for Westgate Oxford, with work due to start on the site in spring. Up to 1,000 construction workers will work on the development which, when complete, will create around 3,400 jobs in and around Oxford.

The company’s 30-month contract is focused on the construction of the shell and core of the three-storey retail centre, together with a 1,000-space underground car park and 61 new residential properties.

Taking into account the size of the new development and the range of activities that will be carried out within, implementing a very solid and reliable access control system across the entire site is a must, especially for those specific areas where access should be restricted.

Access Control UK employs a variety of access control technologies in order to create advanced solutions, enable users to exert solid, reliable and accurate control over the access to specific premises or zones.
