The UK government will build nine new prisons in England and Wales as part of Chancellor George Osbourne’s spending review, a recent news source has been able to reveal.

A total of five prisons are scheduled to be built by 2020, with cash for the £3bn building programme being generated through closing Victorian jails in city centre locations and selling the sites for new housing.

It is understood each new prison will cost between £270m and £320m, with approximately 10,000 new inmates being moved to the new facilities. Around £80m per year will be saved due to the reduced costs of the modern facilities.

Considering the specific nature and the future use of the new sites, the implementation of a solid and reliable Access Control system on the premises is certainly a must.

Access Control UK employs a variety of access control technologies in order to create advanced solutions, enable users to exert solid, reliable and accurate control over the access to specific premises or zones.
