Interserve wins contract for building new proton beam therapy facility

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust has awarded Interserve a contract for designing and building a high energy Proton Beam Therapy facility, the first of its kind in the UK.

Proton beam therapy is a specialist form of radiotherapy which can very precisely target certain cancers, increasing success rates and reducing side-effects and its introduction to the UK will bring the treatment closer to patients who currently have to travel abroad to receive it.

For this very ambitious initiative, Interserve was appointed Principal Supply Chain Partner. The company initiated successful collaborations with HKS Architect, ARUP Engineers and Gleeds Cost Consultants, who’ll work together in order to design the future facility around the advanced equipment required for proton beam therapy.

An advanced medical facility of this type will certainly require the implementation of a very solid and reliable access control solution.
