Construction group Balfour Beatty has managed to complete a £2.4m Winter Ward for the Basildon University Hospital in Essex for the Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, a news report in the local media has revealed.

The ProCure 21+ National Framework project features will provide 28 new beds and has been specifically designed in order to boost capacity for emergency patients during the winter period and also includes a nurses’ station and bathrooms.

The building was designed and manufactured in eight weeks and includes 33 modular units and it then took one further week for the modular building components to be placed on site by crane, significantly reducing the overall project programme.

Through the ProCure 21+ National Framework, Balfour Beatty has also delivered development works on the Accident and Emergency Department, Fracture Clinic and the Endoscopy Department at the hospital.

Given the specific nature of the activity being carried out within the ward, installing an advanced access control system to regulate access or integrating the new building with the hospital’s existing one is certainly a must.

Access Control UK employs a variety of access control technologies in order to create advanced solutions, enable users to exert solid, reliable and accurate control over the access to specific premises or zones.
