  1. Northern Ireland leasing company to double workforce

Donnelly Finance and Leasing has revealed plans to double its workforce in Northern Ireland with the creation of 15 jobs over the next three years, as a part of their expansion schedule.

According to a news report, the vehicle leasing company, which is a part of the Donnelly Group, will open offices at the group’s seven sites.

Terence Donnelly, managing director of the Donnelly Group, said: “We are announcing the expansion of Donnelly Finance and Leasing which will now spread from our Mallusk site to all seven sites within the Donnelly Group.”

Any company that faces a staff expansion, regardless of its size, should also seriously consider the implementation of a very solid access control system for their premises, and this is exactly where Access Control UK can prove its worth, given our extensive level of expertise in this market segment.

Our Access Control Systems can operate up to 31 clocking stations, each of which can have up to twelve scanner controllers attached to it – in effect, the system can control access to 372 different areas of your site. Door access can be limited by the access control software, which controls the access profile of each employee who is enrolled on the system via their fire roll call status.

Both smart card and biometric access control scanners can be combined on the same network, giving you full control over who is allowed access through any controlled point at any time of day. Sensitive or dangerous areas can easily be denied to those who do not have the appropriate security clearance.

The actual, physical system is controlled via the Access suite of software, the latest in our proven range of Windows™ based access control products, from simple door and registration point control, through to a fully computerised global networked security system.

It provides quick and easy access to information, and is incredibly intuitive to use. The access control software has been designed so that multiple combinations of access patterns and rules can be programmed into the system to function alongside each other, with the result that all of your employees’ movements are accurately monitored and analysed.

The European Space Agency has decided to open a new research laboratory at the Harwell Oxford science and technology hub, in southern Oxfordshire, the first of its kind on UK soil.

The new European Centre for Space Applications and Telecommunications in Oxford will support a wide variety of projects, from technology science and integrated applications to climate change and telecommunications, a news report reveals.

David Willetts, UK minister for universities and science, said that the UK space industry contributed more than £9bn annually to the country’s economy and supported thousands of skilled jobs. He added: “ESA’s decision to locate its high-tech facility in this country shows that we are creating the right environment for innovation and cutting-edge research.”

Such an advanced research facility will certainly require a very solid, reliable and secure access control solution, possibly featuring a biometrics access control solution, such as the T340x fingerprint scanners on offer from Access Control UK.

These scanners will easily read your employees’ fingerprints to verify the identity of the smart card holder, providing total peace of mind.

Additionally, the biometric access control scanners are able to control most standard types of internal and external electronic, magnetic door releases and devices. They can also be combined with standard smart card scanners, enabling users to mix fingerprint reading and non-fingerprint reading access control scanners on the same security network.

Each attempted access on a scanner is logged within the access control software allowing you to view and track employees’ movements across your site. Simple to install, each scanner controller can operate over Ethernet or standard network cabling reducing the number of additional wires needed.

Role-based Access Control (RBAC) is quite an interesting approach to the field of access control solutions, especially since it can seriously streamline the entire access control process within a large number of institutions, including here the ones from the healthcare industry.

The complex nature of the healthcare system in quite a lot of countries (and especially the UK) can lead to certain situations when employees have to be granted access to various areas pertaining to the same hospital or trusts, often not found on the same site.

The shift pattern also varies greatly, depending on the nature of the rotas created within every hospital. Moreover, the staff’s access to very specific areas has also the be thoroughly regulated, depending on their specific rights and job descriptions. Access to the patients’ specific records has also be carefully supervised, given the very sensitive nature of the respective information.

A surprise visit in August by inspectors found serious failings at Lincoln Prison. Chief executive of Noms, Michael Spurr, said: “This is not acceptable and we have taken urgent action to address the chief inspector’s concerns.” He added: “The governor has been replaced and measures are being implemented at pace to improve safety, decency and regime provision across the prison.”

Access Control UK has a proven visitor control system that we have adapted for HMP Prison use. It fulfils many functions, including recording the details, photo and the signatures of visitors and contractors so that this vital data can be stored at the point of entry to your jail premises. Visitor signatures can be used as proof that the contractor has read and understood the site’s Health and Safety policy. Comprehensive reporting software can generate fire evacuation reports for visitors or contractors.

metals aluminium copper thieves Home Secretary Access Control UK T1481 exterior locations building security network smart card consistent read range barriers turnstilesNon-ferrous metals like aluminium and copper are becoming increasing targets for thieves, which is why new laws have been put in place to fight metal thefts. Home Secretary Theresa May announced the changes in January, saying cash payments for metal at scrap yards had resulted in “anonymous, low-risk transactions” for thieves and led to “poor record keeping” within the trade. The metal recycling industry employs almost 8,000 people in the UK and is worth about £5.6 billion a year.

Access Control UK offers a T1481 access control scanner for exterior locations to supplement any building security network. The T1481 uses RF (radio frequency) technology to read your smart card and grant access. Unaffected by most external conditions, this type of access control scanner is durable, resilient and provides a consistent read range. It has similar dimensions to a standard light switch and a compact design. Access Control UK access control scanners can also be mounted next to barriers or turnstiles.

The new Police and Crime Commissioner of West Midlands Bob Jones said the force he controls had lost out on more than £270m of central funding in seven years. In response the Home Office said the ‘damping’ process, which imposes a series of limits for funding the UK’s 43 police forces, was currently being reviewed. The result of this review was expected within a month.

Access Control UK includes Visitor Management Systems (VMS) among its building door access technology which tackles crime at the workplace by barring unauthorised visitors. Companies that do not have a front desk receptionist can take advantage of the VMS Unmanned Reception Console. This is operated via touch screen technology only. Visitors with appointments can book themselves in and out and the back office can contact their host upon their arrival. This can be done manually or the host can be automatically notified by email.
