A well-known British construction company has been selected to redevelop the arts and design centre at Somerset College, a recent news report in the local business media was able to reveal.

BAM will carry out extensive work on the existing 1970s Arts House on the college’s Taunton campus. The contractor for the £7 million project will put a new roof and exterior glazing on the main four-storey arts building, as well as giving it new mechanical and electrical services.

Additionally, an existing four-storey building will be given major structural works to open the areas up for exhibition and circulation and to improve the natural light in the space, while a new single-storey gluam structural framed extension will complete the quadrangle of buildings and provide new reprographic and theatre performance space.

Any modern building of this type should also be equipped with a suitable range of access restriction systems. Access Control UK employs a variety of access control technologies in order to create advanced solutions, enable users to exert solid, reliable and accurate control over the access to specific premises or zones.

The access control systems supplied by Access Control UK also support an effective Fire Roll Call feature, which will enable employers to evacuate the personnel off the premises in a very orderly and clear manner, should a fire, explosion or some other type of catastrophe occur.
