Manchester Airport to Undergo Massive £1bn Transformation Scheme

Manchester Airport is set to undergo a massive redevelopment as part of a £1 billion transformation programme that has just been approved by the relevant planning authorities, a recent news report has been able to suggest.

The phased project includes a host of very useful features, such as expanding and reconfiguring Terminal 2 to become the airports primary terminal building and carrying out improvements to Terminal 3 to increase demand and expand flight schedule.

Other developments will include the introduction new and enlarged airside transfer facilities, including the direct linkage between Terminals 2 and 3, as well as the creation of a US pre-clearance facility and a new modern and enlarged security hall.

Additional customer friendly enhancements include service check-in facilities and around 50 food and beverage and retail outlets and the creation of a ‘future-proofed’ operational airport environment that provides greater flexibility and resilience to cater to evolving airline and security needs.

Other improvements also include new stands and piers offering better departure gate facilities and improved surface access road system.

Brad Miller, MAN-TP Director, said: “Everyone at Manchester Airport is delighted that a significant piece of our £1bn transformation programme has been given planning consent. This means work can truly begin on the project, which over the next decade will see the airport continue to develop as a global gateway for the UK, directly to and from the North.

“The enhancements the project will make will enable us to further adapt, modernise and transform the customer service experience we are able to offer passengers and airlines.”
