University of Cambridge to get new chemical engineering and biotechnology facility
Construction services company Morgan Sindall has just been awarded a £40.8m contract by the University of Cambridgeshire for the development of a new chemical engineering and biotechnology facility, a news report in the local media has revealed.
The building, designed by architects BDP, will feature biological laboratories, cleanrooms and a magnetic resonance research centre, with the estimated date of completion being set for June 2015.
The project follows the merger of the university’s Department of Chemical Engineering and the Institute of Biotechnology and will bring together teaching and research. The building will be set in the university’s science and technology campus at West Cambridge which covers 163 acres.
Bob Ensch, area director for Morgan Sindall, said: "The West Cambridge site blends academic and commercial buildings and provides the physical space that allows the university to create facilities which will compete with other leading international universities and act as a centre for collaborative research with industry."
