Logistics experts Norbert Dentressangle have recently revealed plans to open a new distribution centre in Taunton for its specialist services operation, at some point later on this month.

According to a report in the local media, the new distribution centre will house more than 45 drivers, warehouse operatives and administration staff, with further jobs set to be created as the business expands. The centre, located on a 1.5 acre site at the Crown Industrial Estate, will require an investment of more than £150,000 in redeveloping.

The 16,000 sq ft site is to act as a regional hub for Norbert Dentressangle’s two-man operations which handle high value, bulky or sensitive items such as catering, vending and telecommunications equipment.

It will also supply services for customers of the company’s day distribution and night distribution services and feature a regional training centre for specialist services staff.

Around 30 vehicles and trailers are to operate from the site which is set to handle between 800 and 1,200 consignments per week. Mike Bridges, managing director at Norbert Dentressangle Transport Services, said: "The new specialist services site will ensure that the daily transfer of a wide range of goods across the network is more efficiently handled. Despite the current challenging economic climate, we are committed to enhancing customer services levels by delivering operational improvements and will continue to invest in our UK infrastructure to achieve this."

Quite obviously, such an extensive development, will also require the implementation of a very solid access control solution. This is exactly where Access Control UK will manage to put its expertise to good work, given the fact that we offer an extensive level of experience in designing and delivering reliable, secure and affordable high-spec solutions.

The flagship offering in our extensive lineup is represented by the Access Lite.NET/Enterprise.NET systems, capable of providing from one access control point to a multi-site network of scanners and clocks.

The systems are easily operated by contactless smart cards, which means that access is granted / denied instantly. Furthermore, the systems can also work with physical security devices and have no limits in terms of the number of employees registered.

Additional extra features worth mentioning include two-factor authentication through biometrics, as well as the fast and easy integration with other systems.
