CSCS set to speed up application process by going online
The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) will be launching an updated online service aimed at speeding up the CSCS card application process, the organization has recently revealed.
For more than 20 years CSCS’s application processing and contact centre services have been delivered under contract by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB). In late 2017 CITB formally notified CSCS of their intention to withdraw from delivering the service.
Since then CSCS has taken the opportunity to identify and procure a modern service, moving the majority of applications online and improving the existing telephone and paper-based application processes.
Graham Wren, Chief Executive at CSCS said: “I am delighted to announce that the new service will go live by the end of 2019. This new and exciting development includes the introduction of online applications and the ability to send an electronic version of the CSCS card directly to your mobile phone.”
Applying for a CSCS card online will be considerably easier, quicker and more convenient than any other means of application. Applicants will have the choice of applying for their cards using their personal computers, tablet devices or mobile phones.
The streamlined service will allow applicants the convenience of submitting their applications at a time to suit them and from any location, without the need to pick up the phone and talk to a service agent.
Graham Wren continued: “Buying services online is quickly becoming the norm. Introduction of the new service will remove much of the complexity surrounding the existing application process and demonstrate CSCS’s commitment to delivering a first-class service to the 1.5 million card holders and their employers in the UK construction industry.”
CSCS would like to reassure card holders that the scheme will continue to operate as normal while the process of developing the new service takes place.
Access Control UK– the partner of choice for Construction / Building Site Access Control
Professionals who hold a CSCS card can use their existing card to gain access to a construction site or similar, including through turnstiles or car park barriers. The WinAC.NET software includes a CSCS card wizard that allows system users to quickly grant contractors access to their access control system.
Other advanced features that can be enabled include a separate verification process where CSCS smartcard holders must report to a Site Manager for the Site Manager to verify the Contractor’s details before permitting the CSCS smartcard to enter a site. This can be conducted on a site-by-site basis or can be applied to permit usage of a CSCS smartcard across a number of sites.
The CSCS smartcard provides a very powerful and cost effective means of centralising Time & Attendance, Advanced Access Control and Fire/Evacuation roll-call, re-using an existing CSCS smartcard as base for the entire system.
